Inspiring Change: Feathers Supports International Women’s Day

From our pioneering founder, Miss Freda Dudley-Ward, in the 1930s to our inspiring leaders today, we are proud and grateful to the incredible women who have helped shape our cause.

This year for International women’s Day here at Feathers we are highlighting Club Manager of Feathers Welshpool and Newtown, Gwen Evans. A key member of the team. Feathers set foot in Wales just over a year ago with Gwen at the helm opening both Feathers Newtown and Feathers Welshpool.  

 Both Youth Clubs in Wales is poised for even greater success. Building on the strong foundation of 2024, the club aims to expand its offerings to meet the needs of its growing community.

Planned developments include opening the clubs every evening and on weekends, creating more opportunities for young people to gather and engage. A table tennis club is in the works, with aspirations to improve facilities and host competitions, thanks to a partnership with Table Tennis Wales. Pool and darts leagues will also add an exciting new dimension to the club’s activities.

The outdoor space will be transformed into a welcoming seating area, enhancing both club’s versatility and appeal. The upgraded kitchen now supports hot drinks and snacks, opening doors for hosting even more community groups and events. Monthly trips are also on the horizon, promising a variety of enriching experiences for members.

Gwen spoke about her role at Feathers.

“Leading both Feathers Welshpool and Newtown keeps me very busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love getting out into the local community and engaging with young people. We have started to build something truly special here—creating safe spaces where young people feel heard, supported, and empowered. It’s not just about providing activities; it’s about addressing the needs of our communities and making a real difference in their lives.” 

As we continue working toward a more equal and representative future, we are thrilled to have exceptional female leaders in key roles throughout our organization. This includes Feathers club managers and staff in Marylebone, Welshpool, and Newtown, whose positive influence empowers and inspires young women and girls every day.
