Feathers Marylebone Opens Featherweight Gym: A New Community Fitness Space in Marylebone
The Feathers Association is proud to announce the official opening of Featherweight Gym, its new state-of-the-art community fitness facility. Designed to improve health outcomes, expand access to affordable fitness, and create long-term positive impact across central London, the gym marks a major investment in community wellbeing. The name Featherweight Gym was chosen by a local community member following a consultation process, reflecting the centre’s commitment to ensuring local voices shape its future.
The launch event brought together members of the community, local supporters and key stakeholders, who were joined by charity ambassador and distinguished actor Keeley Hawes. Keeley grew up in the area and has a long personal connection to Feathers, having attended the youth club herself as a child. After cutting the ribbon to officially open the gym, she reflected on the significance of the moment:
“Being back at Feathers Marylebone and meeting so many members of the community has been incredibly moving. Walking through the new gym and seeing the pride people have in this space reminded me why Feathers has always been such a vital part of this neighbourhood. This centre helped shape me, and returning to see it thriving – with such ambitious facilities and dedicated people – has been a real privilege.”
She added:
“What struck me today was the sense of determination and generosity that runs through this community. The new gym is impressive, of course, but it’s the people behind it – the volunteers, families, and supporters – who make Feathers truly exceptional.”
Featherweight Gym represents a significant commitment to supporting community wellbeing at a time when many neighbourhoods face rising barriers to affordable fitness and youth provision. By offering a safe, inclusive and high-quality space, the project aims to reduce health inequalities, boost physical and mental well-being, and help decrease local crime and anti-social behaviour through proactive engagement and positive activity.
Feathers Association CEO David Jones highlighted the importance of the project:
“Featherweight Gym is the result of determined community effort and belief in what’s possible when we invest in people. It’s more than a facility – it’s a commitment to creating a stronger, healthier future for everyone who walks through our doors.”
He also acknowledged Keeley’s special place in the community:
“We are incredibly grateful to Keeley for joining us today. Her connection to this community runs deep, and her support means a great deal to everyone here. While today is about celebrating a facility built for and by the community, having Keeley with us made the moment even more special for the many people who remember her as part of the Feathers story.”
The opening of Featherweight Gym stands as a proud milestone for Feathers Marylebone – and for Keeley Hawes, who returned to celebrate a centre that helped shape her childhood and continues to transform lives in the heart of London.
