Feathers Association Announces South Wales Expansion

The Feathers Association is delighted to announce the expansion of our youth and community programmes into South Wales. This exciting development will see us work in close partnership with local charities and organisations supporting the needs of communities in the region.

We are pleased to be joining forces with Newport County FC’s charitable foundation, County In The Community, to fund the continuation and growth of the ‘Fit & Fed’ programme. This vital intervention offers local children, many of whom are facing the consequences of the ongoing cost of living crisis, free access to high quality sports sessions and a nutritious hot meal outside of school. We are pleased to be supporting a programme that tackles many complex issues, such as inactivity, holiday hunger and social isolation, all areas that align with our mission and community strategy.

Commencing our partnership on St Davids’s Day, we’ve not only been able to celebrate a significant day in the Welsh cultural Calander, but also continue to immerse ourselves in the local community. It was a real pleasure to welcome a group of local children to today’s special midweek ‘Fit & Fed’ session here in Newport, where we witnessed first-hand the incredible impact of the programme, as well as the overwhelming desire from local children to involve themselves in meaningful activity.

Heralding a milestone moment in the charity’s history, CEO David Jones reflected on the significance of today’s announcement.

“This is a hugely proud moment for the charity, as for the very first time, we see The Feathers Association directly supporting children outside of the Greater London area.

We were founded in 1934, at the request of the then Prince of Wales, so to be here in South Wales; On St. David’s Day seeing first-hand the joy and enthusiasm of the children taking part is really special.

Today offers a glimpse of our future vision and signals the beginning of our long-term commitment to the local area and wider South Wales region. We have to say a huge thank you to the team at County In The Community, with which we have a shared vision to provide ongoing support to those in need. Today is a real testament to that and demonstrates what can be achieved through positive collaboration and high quality youth and community work”

Today signals the exciting first step of our expansion into South Wales and we look forward to bringing you further updates as our work progresses. You can keep up to date with our work, by signing up to our mailing list here.
