Welcome To Welshpool: The Feathers Association Announces Welshpool Partnership
The Feathers Association is delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Powys County Council & Welshpool Youth Centre, which will see us support the expansion of youth and community programmes within the town.
Working alongside sector partners, including Street Games, Welshpool was identified as an area at risk of losing vital youth and community programmes, due to a lack of sustainable funding and support. Following an initial visit to Welshpool, hosted by members of Welshpool County Council, local Police and other community leaders, it was strikingly clear how vital the provisions at risk are to so many in the town.
Driven by the passion of those in Welshpool and the clear alignment between the values and mission of The Feathers Association, we are pleased to have completed a period of community consultation and agreed a sustainable partnership with Powys County Council that will secure and expand the programmes available to children and young people in Welshpool.
We are pleased to share that work has already begun, as we facilitated an inspiring day out for a group of young people to see International athletics in Manchester.
Spearheading this exciting partnership is Gwen Evans, a Youth Worker and community advocate who has been at the heart of the Welshpool community for numerous years. Gwen spoke proudly of this new relationship, sharing her thoughts on the potential to impact more lives.
“The launch of Feathers Welshpool will help young people and families in Welshpool access and enjoy a variety of activities and trips during the Summer. The centre will also open more often and for longer; offering food, a safe space, and plenty of great activities. We see positive change when our young people engage in activities and spent time in the centre.
The young people have already enjoyed a trip to Manchester and are looking forward to many more adventures. We are passionate about developing the young people’s self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-belief whilst broadening their horizons. Working alongside The Feathers Associations is giving us that opportunity, Thank you!’
Our initial work this summer signals the start of a long–term and sustainable partnership, designed in consultation with the community of Welshpool, Powys County Council and various community stakeholders. Stay engaged with our social media accounts, as we document our work and impact within Welshpool, Newport and London, as well as continuing to deliver updates on the growth of our programmes.
